Maku vows to end political godfatherism in Nasarawa

Mr Labaran Maku, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nasarawa State has promised to end political godfatherism in the North-Central state, if elected.
Maku, former Minister of Information and the current National Secretary of APGA, made the promise on Wednesday while addressing supporters of the party in Ado, Karu Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, godfatherism is responsible for most of the political instability and corruption in the state.
He urged that some candidates and political parties, whom he said had no vision and purpose to contest election, to stop castigating APGA for not having godfathers in the state.
“We have broken away from godfathers in order to serve the people directly. If I win election in APGA, I will serve the people because no single person would claim the credit for my victory,” Maku said.
Maku said that for those who are saying that APGA did not have godfathers would be shocked at the power of the people, stressing that democracy was about the people and not godfathers.
He promised that under his leadership, the common people would be given contracts as a way of empowerment them, unlike the practice whereby contracts were given to only the powerful in the society.
Maku also promised to give priority to security of lives and property and transform the state.
Earlier, John Paul, who spoke on behalf of the group, promised to mobilise people for Maku’s electoral victory because of the people’s belief in him “as the most credible candidate in the state. “
Paul also said Maku had prove to be credible it in all the offices he held in the past.
