Madagali: Bomber dies with baby strapped on her back

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that one of the three female suicide bombers who attacked Madagali town, Adamawa State, on Friday died with a baby strapped on her back.
The Coordinator of NEMA for Adamawa and Taraba Operation Office, Mr Sa’ad Bello, who confirmed the development, said that nine people died in the triple blast including the suicide bombers.
“So far, we have nine dead including the three female suicide bombers, while 14 others sustained various degree of injuries,” Bello said.
Bello explained that one of the female suicide bombers was carrying a baby.
Also confirming the development, the Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Malam Haruna Furo, said that normalcy has returned to the area.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa State Government has condemned the incident and urged the public to be more vigilant and report suspicious persons, objects and movements to security agencies.
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Malam Ahmad Sajoh, said that the injured had been taken to Michika General Hospital for medical attention.
Sajoh assured that government had made all necessary arrangement to cater for the injured and their relations staying with them at the hospital.
An eye witness who simply identified himself as Baba, said the blast occurred near a checkpoint at the entrance of the town.
“We heard three blasts near the checkpoint where people gathered to be screened before entering the town as you know today is market day.
“The suicide bombers blew themselves up alongside the two vigilante members that approached them,” Baba said.
Speaking on the development, the member representing Madagali/Michika Federal Constituency, Mr Adamu Kamale, sympathised with those injured and prayed for the repose of the soul of the dead.
He called for more deployment of troops to comb the Madagali axis of Sambisa which he said was still harbouring insurgents.
When contacted, the Chairman of Madagali Local Government, Alhaji Yusuf Mohammed, also confirmed the incident but said he could not give details because he was not in town.
“I was outside the town for an official engagement but I was called and informed about the incident. That is all I can tell you for now,”  Mohammed said.
