French President Emmanuel Macron has voiced support for Spain following a trade warning issued by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Reports from French newspaper Le Parisien indicate that Macron spoke by phone with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Wednesday. During the conversation, the French leader reaffirmed France’s solidarity with Spain and emphasized a united European stance in response to what has been described as economic pressure from Washington.
Earlier, Trump warned that the United States could suspend all trade relations with Spain after Madrid declined a request to allow U.S. forces access to a Spanish military base for operations targeting Iran.
In response, Prime Minister Sanchez dismissed the threat, stating that Spain would not bow to external pressure or retaliatory measures from any country.
