Lai Mohammed drums support for ‘Labour Room’ TV Reality Show

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has appealed to the corporate sector to support “The Labour Room’’, Nigeria’s reality show geared toward national development.
The minister made the appeal when he paid a visit to the “Labour Room Mansion’’ a location in Abuja where 37 youths, male and female, Muslims and Christians, selected from each state of the federation and the FCT, were assembled.
The youth, who were christened “Governors’’ were housed in the mansion for 60 days during which they analysed and x-rayed myriad of issues bedeviling the Nigerian state and articulated workable and sustainable solution driven recommendation for reform.
Speaking to newsmen after over two hours interaction with the “Governors’’, the minister said that he was encouraged with the initiative and encouraged corporate and well meaning Nigerians to support it.
“We need this initiative a lot. It is not just to entertain but to build values and morals. This is what we need mostly now in Nigeria
“It is a mind blowing experience for me to realise that there are 37 young Nigerians in this labour room in the last 60 days and all they have been doing is bonding, preaching unity dreaming of a new Nigeria
“They have the vision of Nigeria where people will not be judged on whether they are from the North, East, West or South.
“What I also find quite exciting is that each of them has a pet project ranging from inhibition and core ambition of what to do either in agriculture, education, tourism and creative industry,’’ he said.
The minister said there was a kind of synergy between the concept of the show and the pre-occupation of the Federal Government toward reviving the country.
“Our vision and their vision intercept and it gives me confidence that we have a crop of new and young Nigerians who believed in sacrifice and selflessness,’’ he said.
Mohammed said that the lesson learnt from the show, among others, was that Nigerians irrespective of tribe and religion must learn to live together and find solutions to the challenges of the nation.
He said the difference between the labour room show, and others was that it did not deal with frivolities but discuss life changing issues.
The Project Consultant, Mr David Ibrahim, thanked the minister for the visit, adding that his coming was a booster and publicity for the show.
Speaking on what informed the show, Ibrahim said that “it is to correct prevalent culture of criticising, analysing, and paralysing issues without proffering solution’’.
“We have reached a point that we want to stop talking but to start proffering solutions to our challenges.
“Change is achieved when you build good minds not when you just build big houses and good roads.
“Nigeria is being reborn here and that is why we call the show “Nigeria rebirth foundation’’ and the title `labour room.’’
He assured that with the end of the first edition, they would consolidate on the achievements and continue to increase publicity for acceptance.
Ibrahim disclosed that some TV stations from Europe had approached them for the content to play from January.
The labour room governor representing Katsina, Ibrahim Mella said his experience in the mansion had been awesome.
“It is an unbelievable event. We stayed together as brothers and sisters. Initially we are strangers and with time we become one,’’ he said.
Nwosu Joy, the “Governor’’ representing Imo State said the show was the best thing that happened to her and she was ready to do it over and over again.
