Mr. Abdulateef Ashimi, Chairman of Somolu Local Government Area, has affirmed that the recent increase in federal allocations provides councils with sufficient resources to drive tangible grassroots development.
Speaking in an interview with our correspondence, Ashimi emphasized that local government chairmen now have no excuse for failing to deliver visible infrastructural and human capital improvements in their communities.
“The federal allocation under President Bola Tinubu has risen significantly. This is meant to ensure that people at the grassroots enjoy the dividends of democracy and experience good governance,” Ashimi said.
He highlighted that the increased funding aligns with the Tinubu administration’s economic reform policies, which aim to positively impact local communities. According to Ashimi, prudent management of funds and transparency remain key to achieving sustainable development at the local government level.
“With these resources, residents should see improved roads, healthcare services, education programs, and enhanced environmental sanitation initiatives,” he added.
The council chairman also outlined the priorities of his administration, which include education support programs, youth empowerment, healthcare improvements, infrastructural projects, human capacity building, and an open-door governance policy.
Ashimi urged Nigerians to be patient with the Tinubu administration, noting that reforms take time to yield visible benefits. “Rome was not built in a day. Development is gradual, but there is light at the end of the tunnel,” he stated.
