The Lagos Lawn Tennis Club has clocked 120 years.
It was founded in 1895 by the British Colonialists who believed that the club would serve great functions in helping the sport grow bigger in the then colonised territory.
President of the LLTC, Onikan, Rotimi Edu, a lawyer, disclosed that activities marking the 120-year celebration of the club would start from July 24 and terminates in December.
He called on well-meaning Nigerians, private and public sector organisations, most especially banks, insurance companies, oil, aviation manufacturing and telecommunications to support the club in sponsorship and branding of the great event.

The celebration was unveiled in an elaborate press conference which also witnessed the unveiling of the event’s logo.

Some of the events include the Anniversary Mega TGIF/ 120 years Celebration Concert, Launching of the Compendium publication, raffle draw, Quadragular Games Tournament with other clubs, public lecture with the topic on the state of the nation.

The chairman of the 120 years anniversary celebration organizing committee, Prince Gbenga Lufadeju, stated that the committee decided to plan activities to be all year round due to the importance of the 120 years of existence.

“One of the main focuses of the committee is to encourage the public especially the non-members and the young ones to make use of recreational areas with the aim of encouraging lawn tennis, table tennis, billiard, squash and other games development. The establishment of a solid and prolific Tennis Foundation to encourage the upcoming young tennis players is one of our major focus and priority.”
