The Lagos State Judiciary has announced that its 2026 annual long vacation will begin on July 20 and end on September 11.

The announcement was contained in a notice issued by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba.

The notice was signed by the Chief Registrar, Tajudeen Elias, and dated June 30.

According to the notice, the annual vacation was approved in line with Order 49 Rule 4(d) of the High Court of Lagos State Civil Procedure Rules, 2019.

The judiciary said designated vacation judges had been assigned to handle urgent civil matters during the vacation period.

The affected judicial divisions include Ikeja, Lagos, Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Surulere/Yaba and Eti-Osa.

The notice stated that judges would sit on scheduled dates across the divisions throughout the vacation.

However, the Lagos State Judiciary clarified that the criminal division of the court would continue sitting during the annual break.

It added that urgent criminal matters could also be heard by a vacation judge where such cases are assigned by the Chief Judge.

The notice further stated that urgent civil applications may be heard by vacation judges, except on Sundays and public holidays.

Parties seeking urgent hearings during the vacation were advised to apply by summons in chambers.

Such applications may be made before a vacation judge or before the judge handling the substantive matter.

The judiciary also announced that the 2026/2027 legal year will begin on September 14.

The new legal year service has been scheduled to hold on September 21.

The announcement is expected to guide lawyers, litigants and members of the public on court operations during the Lagos judiciary vacation period.
