athletic_trackThe Lagos state quarterly Inter-Club Competitions will flag-off across the state Thursday.

The first to have their competition is the state’s Athletics Association headed by Professor Tunde Makanju.

They would be having their events Thursday and Friday at the Sports Complex of the University of Lagos, Akoka.

The competition tagged Lagos Open Championship/Eko Grand Prix, will take place at the Sports Complex of the University of Lagos.

Interesting, the two days competition has attracted clubs and athletes not only from Lagos, but also from Ghana and other West African countries. The tournament will be used to prepare athletes within and outside the country that are still hoping to make it to the 2013 IAAF World Championships holding in Russia next month.

Chairman of Lagos State Athletics Association, Tunde Makanjuola, said more than 25 clubs will be taken part in the competition which has been facilitated by the Ministry of Sports and Social Development and the Grassroots Sports Development Office. He disclosed that a good support was also received from Lucozade Boost.

“At least 25 clubs have signified interest in taking part in the competition and we are ready. All logistics have been put in place to ensure a smooth organisation of the tournament. Good prize money will be given out to athletes from Lagos State who excel in their respective events at the end of the day. I want to thank Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola for the initiative of this Quarter Inter Clubs Competitions because it will make our athletes ever ready for national and international meets,” said Makanjuola.

The multi-sports competitions are designed purposely to keep athletes of the state busy and a veritable platform to discover pool of athletes for future national competitions.
