The Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) has urged authorities of the Lagos State University (LASU) to issue certificates to part-time students who had graduated from the institution.
A letter from the LASU Part-Time students who graduated from the institution was read by the Chief Clerk of the House, Mr Ganiyu Abiru, at the plenary on Thursday.
In the letter, the graduates appealed to the house to intervene in the issue of their delayed certificates.
Mr Wahab Alawiye, the Chairman, House Committee on Education, said that steps were being taken by the committee to ensure that the affected students received their certificates soon.
Alawiye said that about 4,000 certificates had been recently signed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Obafunwa, as part of efforts to ensure that the students received their certificates.
Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, the Speaker of the House, who presided at the plenary, urged the school authorities to ensure that the affected students received their certificates, as soon as possible.
Hundreds of part-time students of LASU on Wednesday, April 12, 2012, besieged the State House of Assembly to protest against alleged delays in their institution’s academic calendar and in the issuance of certificates to past graduates.
The students claimed that they had been spending more time than necessary, every semester.
They also accused the school authorities of delaying the issuance of certificates to part-time students who completed their programmes four years ago.
