Lagos APC congress: Lawmakers hail process, express confidence in new exco

Some Lagos lawmakers, on Saturday, commended the 2021 state congress of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as “fantastic, smooth and peaceful.”
The lawmakers spoke in Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, (formerly Onikan Stadium), the venue of the congress.
They expressed confidence in the capacity of the newly elected party executive.
Speaking, Mr Setonji David, the Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Strategy, Publicity and Security, commended the party stakeholders for peaceful conduct.
“It was fantastic, everything went on fine and smooth without any issue at all. No acrimony, no challenge. It has been peaceful.
“The APC has been here since, we have the pedigree, I want to assure all that the transition is going to be seamless and smooth.
“We have no doubt whatsoever by the capacity of the people we have elected to steer our party. Be rest assured that the APC will continue to deliver in Lagos State,” David said.
On reports of some parallel congresses held by aggrieved groups within the Lagos APC, David said he was not aware of such development.
He said that the congress approved by the national secretariat was the one held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
“What we are doing here is authentic congress, any other one outside this place is just an exercise in futility.
“INEC officials are here; national congress committee are here and all went on smoothly,” he said.
David said that the aggrieved members of the party did not need to break the house all because they were not happy.
“I want to enjoin, encourage and plead that everybody should come together.
“There is only one APC in Lagos State and this is where the authentic one is, any other one is an aberration,” he added.
In his remark, Mr Olusegun Olulade, a two-term former Lagos Assembly lawmaker, who represented Epe Constituency II, described the process as smooth, democratic and peaceful.
Olulade urged the new executive to commence mobilisation for the next general elections.
On the reported parallel congresses, Olulade said he was not aware of such, saying the approved congress was the one that had officials of INEC to monitor and conducted by party officials sent from the national headquarters.
Mr Cornelius Ojelabi was elected at the new Chairman of the Lagos APC state Executive Council with Mr Olanrewaju Maiyegun as the Deputy Chairman.
Others are Sunmi Odesanya (State Secretary), Biodun Aigbe (Treasurer), Doyin Banjo ( Financial Secretary), Adewale Ayodele (Organising Secretary) and Oluseye Oladejo (Publicity Secretary).
Others include Kehinde Adeniyi (Welfare Secretary), Doyin Pikudan (Auditor), Jumoke Okoya-Thomas ( Woman Leader) and Dr Muritala Seriki (Youth Leader), among others.
