The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU) in Malete, Prof. Jimoh Shaykh-Luqman, has commended the Kwara Government for commencing work on the collapsed culvert linking Shao to Malete road.

Shaykh-Luqman, in a statement by the institution’s Acting Director, University Relations, Dr Saeedat Aliyu, on Thursday in Ilorin gave the commendation following the deployment of machinery and workforce to the site.

He said work on the culvert has since began in earnest following the deployment.

”We appreciate the swiftness with which the state government effected temporary repair when the collapse happened.

”This is because the collapsed culvert was pivotal to vehicular movement from Ilorin to the university and the many agrarian communities in the area.

”With this, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has again proven that his administration is people-focused and committed to providing developmental amenities for the comfort of Kwarans,” the acting Vice-Chancellor said.

He added that the university was appreciative of the state governor keeping to his promise on the prompt commencement of reconstruction as soon as the river receded.

”Such action has endeared his person and administration to not only the university community but all the communities that use the road,” Shaykh-Luqman said.

He then appealed to all users of the Shao-Malete Road to exercise patience while using the detour created to divert vehicular traffic away from the reconstruction site.

“The detour is necessary and temporary to allow for the proper reconstruction of the culvert.”

Shaykh-Luqman disclosed that the university has approached the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to deploy men to the highway.

”They are to help direct vehicles on and off the highway while the reconstruction is being carried out on the culvert.

“All road users should cooperate with the men of the FRSC as they direct traffic to ensure accident-free movement on the road,” he said.

The culvert which connected Shao to Malete had collapsed after heavy rains on July 18.
