Rather than thaw, the tension in Kwara State over the spate of kidnapping has deepened with the latest killing of a pastor after N5 million ransom was paid.
A policeman and two farmers have also been kidnapped and the blood-thirsty terrorists are also asking for ransom.
Reverend James Issa, a pastor with the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) was abducted and after church and family members managed to get N5 million as ransom, he was killed by his abductors after collecting the cash.
The extreme ruthlessness of the kidnappers terrorising the North-Central state is now known in security circle as ‘ransom-for-murder’.
Victims are now being killed after their families have exhausted all resources to pay ransom, just to send a message to the locals of the extreme ruthlessness of the terrorists.
Issa was abducted from Ekati village in Patigi Local Government Area on August 28 and the terrorists demanded for N100 million ransom.
After much pleading by church and family members, the ransom was lowered to N5 million.
After collecting the N5 million, and to show their ruthlessness, the kidnappers demanded an additional N45 million.
Hours after, Issa was brutally murdered.
Also in Patigi, a police officer from Ndanakun community was ambushed and abducted while returning from duty.
His colleague managed to escape.
In Bokungi Zambufu community, Edu Local Government, two farmers have also been abducted and the kidnappers are already asking for ransom running into millions of naira.
