President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to implement the Administration of Criminal Justice Act to effectively fight corruption in the country.
Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr Ali Ahmad, made the call in his first interaction with newsmen since becoming the helmsman of the legislature in Ilorin on Wednesday.
The speaker said it was necessary for the President to implement the Act signed by former President Goodluck Jonathan, for the anti-corruption crusade to be successful.

“I am afraid that the war on corruption will be scuttled in the law court if President Buhari did not implement this law”, Ahmad said.

He restated that any anti-corruption war would be frustrated in court through litigation by individuals accused of corruption if the Act was not implemented.

The speaker also advised Buhari to appoint Attorney General of the Federation without delay so as to emplace the body to administer the law.

Ahmad contended that the war on corruption would be fought and won in the court, following due process.

He commended the President for the appointment of Prof. Itse Sagay as Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on War against Corruption.
The speaker said Kwara House of Assembly would soon pass the Administration of Criminal Justice into law in the state making it the first state to do so.

Ahmad called for constructive criticism from the people of the state and media on the activities of the Kwara Assembly in order to achieve its objective.

Ahmad said members of the 8th legislature in the state would sponsor private bills aimed at improving the wellbeing of residents.

The speaker expressed the readiness of the legislature to always respond to the yeaning and aspiration of residents.

According to him, the legislature is the only avenue for the downtrodden to express grievances and be listened to at all times.

He promised the people that members would discharge their duty of check and balance on the executive arm of government.

“You should challenge us if we fail to maintain check and balance on the Executive Council,” he added.
