Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara on Friday swore in members of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the state.
AbdulRazaq charged the corps members to justify the confidence reposed in them as leaders of tomorrow by making patriotism, discipline, among other virtues, their watchword always.
He recalled that the NYSC was established to play a key role in the drive towards the achievement of national integration and building of a cohesive Nigeria.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, AbdulRazaq thanked the Federal Government and the NYSC management for their continuous efforts in sustaining the noble scheme.
He added that the scheme has afforded the educated Nigerian youth a golden opportunity to productively channel their skills and intellect towards national development.
“The onus now rests on you to be physically, psychologically and socially ready to face the rigours and challenges of nation-building.
“Behave like an adult who is well imbued with the attributes of good citizenship, patriotism and discipline through the various trainings you will be exposed to in the course of this three-week orientation exercise.
“I enjoin you to always present yourselves as worthy ambassadors of your various families and indeed the NYSC scheme by exhibiting the sterling qualities of ‘Service and Humility’, which is the motto of the NYSC,” the governor advised.
He stated that his administration has been giving adequate support and assistance to the management of NYSC in executing all its programs in the state.
AbdulRazaq added that his administration recently commenced the perimeter fencing of the orientation camp.
He further pledged his government’s continuous support to the welfare and security of corps members serving in the state.
In his introductory address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Onifade Olaoluwa, congratulated the newly-inducted corps members.
Olaoluwa, however urged them to participate fully in the programs, including para-military drills, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship development programs, and citizenship and leadership training.
