The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, has promised to provide adequate security of lives and property to the people of the state, if elected.
Abdulrasaq made the pledge on Friday in Ilorin while speaking at the inauguration of 18, 872 polling unit canvassers in all the 193 wards in the 16 local government areas of the state and commissioning of Buhari/Osinbajo Project (POB) 2019 Campaign office.
The inauguration of the canvassers and commissioning of BOP 2019 was performed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
Abdulrasaq said it was unfortunate that the incessant robbery in Kwara South had negatively affected the economic fortunes of the people of the area.
“Security is very important to us in Kwara; we thank the Police because they have brought back security to the state.
“It is a shame that few months ago, there was no single bank working in Kwara South because of the Offa robbery incident,” he said.
According to him, in most states of the federation, State Governments always partner with the Police in the provision of vehicles and funding.
“But regrettably in Kwara, there is nothing like this collaboration with the Police, they only give arms to thugs and cult members rather than give assistance to the Police,” he added.
Abdulrasaq, who lamented that the whole of Kwara south is dead economically because of the robbery attacks, expressed happiness that banks in Offa were opening for business.
“If you go beyond Offa, people travel from Ekiti, Omu Aran and Oro to Offa to transact bank businesses.
“This situation negates our economy; our monthly Internally Generated Revenue is about N2 billion, we can generate more than this from Kwara South, but without banks, businesses will suffer,” he said.
The candidate said that one of the key issues his government would focus on was security, adding; “we will bring back security to the state; people will live peacefully,” he said.
Abdulrasaq, therefore, called on the people of the state to vote for all APC candidates in the elections scheduled to hold in February and March in order to enjoy adequate security.
Speaking at the event, Rotimi Amaechi, the Director-General of Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Council, said the forthcoming elections would be between the rich and the poor.
Amaechi, who is also the Minister for Transportation, called on the people of the state to reject the those that had milked the nation dry in their 16 years of corruption laden leadership.
He, therefore, urged the people of the state to collectively use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to say “enough is enough for the looters of treasury” and vote for all APC candidates during the polls.
