Former Kano State Governor and vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has urged the Federal Government and state authorities to intensify efforts to address rising insecurity across Nigeria, particularly in Katsina State.
Kwankwaso made the appeal on Wednesday during a visit to Katsina, where he met party supporters and also paid a condolence visit over the death of retired Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar.
Speaking during the engagement, Kwankwaso described insecurity as Nigeria’s most pressing national challenge.
He called on both federal and state governments to adopt stronger and more decisive measures to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes affecting communities nationwide.
“This issue of security is critical. All levels of government must do everything possible to end insecurity and banditry in the country,” he said.
The NDC vice presidential candidate also paid tribute to the late Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, describing him as a committed military officer who served Nigeria with honour and professionalism.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased and asked for strength for the bereaved family to cope with the loss.
Kwankwaso reiterated that a future NDC-led administration would prioritise national security, youth empowerment, and improved governance.
He said the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, shares similar reform-driven goals aimed at national development and political accountability.
According to him, both the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the Obidient Movement are aligned in their vision for a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
During the visit, Kwankwaso inaugurated the NDC state office in Katsina and urged supporters to remain united and focused ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He encouraged party members to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and expand political support across the state.
“Our goal is to build a Nigeria where young people can become doctors, engineers, pilots, and successful entrepreneurs,” he added.
Speaking at the event, Aliyu Ilu-Barde, Chairman and governorship candidate of the NDC in Katsina, expressed optimism that the party would perform strongly in upcoming elections.
Similarly, Sule Amadi, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Katsina, urged members to remain committed to the party’s political objectives.
Another party leader, Armayau Abdulkadir, reaffirmed confidence in the party’s strategy to secure electoral victory in 2027.
