The Kogi State Government has declared a three-day mourning period following the death of former Governor Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, popularly known as Ibro.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo announced the former governor’s passing in a statement issued through the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, on Sunday in Lokoja.

Ododo described the death of the former governor as a major loss to Kogi State and Nigeria, saying Idris played a significant role in the political and developmental history of the state.

Flags to Fly at Half-Mast

As part of the mourning arrangements, Governor Ododo directed that the Nigerian national flag and the Kogi State flag be flown at half-mast across government offices and designated public institutions.

The mourning period is intended to honour the memory of the late former governor and recognise his contributions to public service.

State Burial Announced

The Kogi governor also announced that Ibrahim Idris would receive a state burial.

According to Ododo, the state government will take responsibility for the burial arrangements and associated expenses.

Before announcing the measures, Ododo had visited the residence of the late governor in Abuja, where he expressed condolences to members of the Idris family.

Tribute to Former Governor’s Service

In a condolence message to the family, Ododo said Kogi had lost a respected son who dedicated many years to serving the people.

He described Idris as a public servant whose administration contributed to the growth of the state.

The governor highlighted areas including infrastructure development, education, healthcare and institutional strengthening as sectors that received attention during Idris’ administration.

“His years in public office formed an important chapter in the political and developmental journey of Kogi State,” Ododo said.

Ibrahim Idris’ Political Career

Ibrahim Idris served as Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2011.

During his tenure, he supervised various government programmes and projects across the state.

Beyond government policies and infrastructure, Ododo said Idris would be remembered for his commitment to public service and his contributions to Kogi’s political development.

Condolences From Kogi Government

Governor Ododo encouraged the Idris family and those mourning the former governor to find comfort in his years of service and the impact he made during his lifetime.

He extended condolences to the family, friends, political associates and residents of Kogi State.

The governor also offered prayers for the late former governor, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.
