Super Eagles chief coach, Stephen Keshi, has disclosed that beating Tahiti 6-1 in the FIFA Confederations Cup Group B game on Monday was not an easy task as he was forced to change his team’s playing pattern three times to achieve the overwhelming victory over the Oceania champions.
Nnamdi Oduamadu’s hat-trick and Elderson Echiejile’s brace powered the Africans to a comprehensive win over the Islanders as both nations faced off in their first game.
Keshi has now passed his verdict on the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) champions describing them as “not a bad team. Our performance against Tahiti was okay but because we did not have any idea of the them, we did not know what to expect so it was difficult,” Keshi said after the game.
The Nigeria trainer however criticized his players for failing to play at their usual tempo in the game.
“We did not play at our usual tempo We gave them a chance to come back at us and play in a compact way in the middle.
“They are not a bad team. With more training sessions, they might become a very good team. I am more concerned with happens in with my team,” Keshi concluded.
Nigeria will next face South American champions, Uruguay at the Arena Fonte Nova with a win guaranteeing progression to the semi finals.
