Tahiti coach says historic goal was rehearsed

nigeria_tahiti_match4Tahiti coach, Eddy Etaeta, says he and his coaching team celebrated Jonathan Tehau’s goal with such gusto because it was a training ground routine that came off.

“Oh we were so happy about that. I told my players before the game that the only way we were going to get a goal was from corner kicks and free-kicks,” he said.

“So we spent a lot of time working on set pieces. Especially to the back post.”

Some homework on Nigeria also helped, “Yes. We studied them. When I saw Nigeria were going to win the African Cup, I took a lot of time studying them and how they play, and I felt we could get something from the way they defended set pieces.

“So we are very happy that something we practiced worked for us.”
