Jubilation as Ahmed approves pay rise for Kwara workers

There was jubilation among workers in Kwara State on Thursday when Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed announced a pay rise for them.
The announcement was made on behalf of the governor by the Head of Service, Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed.
He said the pay rise would take effect in February “because the Ministry of Finance had prepared vouchers to cover January wages in line with the promise by the governor to ensure workers are paid as at when due”.
“The increment, which will shoot the state’s wage bill by another N100 million monthly, would be catered for through the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). Despite the continued reduction in the state’s allocation, Kwara remains one of the few states in Nigeria still able to pay workers promptly”.
He also announced the approval of another set of N250 million by the governor for the training and re-training of civil servants to make them more vibrant and effective in their service delivery obligations.
