Jonathan: Why is Okah backing Buhari?

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday told Nigerians to ask the All Progressives Congress (APC) why Henry Okah, who wanted to kill him on October 1, 2010, is now backing the presidential candidate of the party, General Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking during the flag-off of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential election campaign at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, the president said he was surprised that
Okah and the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) are now backing the APC.
Okah was arrested in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday, October 2, 2010 following the 2010 Nigeria’s Independence Day attacks that killed 12 people in Abuja.
On Monday, January 21, 2013, a South African court convicted Okah of 13 charges of terrorism, including bombings that killed the 12 people in Abuja on October 1, 2010. Handing down the verdict, Judge Nels Claassen said: “I have come to the conclusion that the state proved beyond reasonable doubt the guilt of the accused.”
He was sentenced to 24 years imprisonment and is currently serving the sentence at the Ebongweni Correctional Centre in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa.
Jonathan said the public support given to Buhari by Okah and MEND was an indication that APC was in support of the plan to kill him.
The Lagos event was attended by Vice President Namadi Sambo, PDP National Chairman, Adamu Muazu, Senate President David Mark, all PDP governors, governorship candidates and party chiefs.
The president also said that the report of the National Conference would be presented to the next National Assembly.
In a veiled reference to Buhari, Jonathan said the lack of equipment in the Army could be traced to when he was Head of State because he never bought equipment for the Armed Forces.
Sambo commended Nigerians for continued support for the Jonathan administration, describing his boss as fair and detribalised.
He said that Lagos residents would be liberated from the shackles of heavy taxation of the APC if they elect Jimi Agbaje of the PDP as their next governor.
Muazu expressed satisfaction at the turnout of the members and the party supporters for the rally.
