The rescheduled presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State held in Akure, the state capital on Wednesday, with its presidential candidate, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, declaring to the mammoth crowd at the campaign rally that politics is about the people and not the individual.
He also told them to reject selfish politicians in the February general elections.
The PDP presidential candidate, who preached unity among members of the party in the state, said politics should not be about self but about the people and thus pleaded with the leaders of the party to unite to enable them build a strong and indivisible state chapter of the party.
He said: “Politics is about the people and not self. We should not play politics of self. I did not join politics because I wanted something for myself, it’s all about the people and that is the way it should be”
Jonathan described the host state as the home of progressive government, and sighting the sea of heads before him at the rally, he exclaimed that Ondo State ” is the Sunshine State indeed”.
He said his government is doing everything possible to further encourage the state in the development of the education of its youths because, according to him, that is also the focus of the federal government.
“This is sunshine state indeed; this is the home of progressive government with great focus on the education of its youth. We must strengthen the youth for leadership. That is why we are focusing on education of the youth too. We must educate them and equip them for leadership” he said.
Vice President Namadi Sambo, who appreciated the people of the state for their constant support, disclosed that the Federal Government has approved a College of Medicine for the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), adding that the school will soon become operational.
The governor of Ondo State and Co-ordinator of the President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign in the South-West, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, assured the President of the full support of the people of the state.
