Jonathan to Buhari, Tinubu: Let’s work together

Even when result from the last state, Borno, was yet to be announced, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday, congratulated his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, for his victory.
With results from 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) released so far, Buhari is already coasting home to victory and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, will announce him as the winner of Saturday’s election soon.
At exactly 5:15pm, Jonathan called Buhari, congratulated him and assured him of a smooth transition.
Jonathan also called a National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and congratulated him for the party’s victory.
Jonathan told the duo to see the outcome of the election as victory for Nigeria.
He promised to do everything within his powers to ensure that the welfare programmes of both the PDP and APC become a reality, even as Buhari takes over from him on May 29.
After the call, Buhari issued an interim message of thanks and gratitude to Nigerians for choosing him and his party over and above the PDP and Goodluck.
A statement on Buhari’s behalf by the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Garba Shehu, said the mood of the country as well as its current state did not warrant the type of wild celebrations reportedly going on in some cities across the country.
Buhari said anybody happy with the victory of the APC in the presidential election will not be involved in the molestation of opponents or the destruction of their property.
“He or she is not with me, whoever does that,” Buhari curtly said.
He is due to make a major acceptance speech in the coming hours .
