Iran Executes Two Men Over Alleged Espionage for Israel

Iranian authorities have confirmed the execution of two men accused of spying for Israel, in a move that has drawn renewed attention to the country’s use of capital punishment.

According to reports from Mizan News Agency, the official outlet of Iran’s judiciary, the executions were carried out at dawn following convictions by a revolutionary court in Karaj, a city near Tehran.

The two individuals were found guilty of collaborating with Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, although authorities have not released detailed information about their arrest or the timeline of the trial.

The case highlights ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, with espionage allegations frequently emerging amid broader geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East.

Human rights organisations have consistently criticised Iran’s reliance on the death penalty, raising concerns about due process and transparency in such cases.

Data from the Norway-based group Iran Human Rights indicates that at least 1,639 executions were carried out in Iran in the previous year, representing the highest figure recorded in more than three decades.

Analysts say the continued use of capital punishment in espionage-related cases reflects the country’s hardline stance on national security.

The development is likely to fuel further debate over human rights practices and judicial processes in Iran.
