Royal Caribbean’s super-luxurious ‘Harmony of the Seas’ is now the world’s largest cruise ship.
Harmony is massive in every way possible – the length of its deck is 1,187 feet, which is longer than the Eiffel Tower is high, or the length of three-and-a half football fields end to end.
The ship weighs 226,963 tons, which is the equivalent of 2,920 fully-loaded Boeing 747-800s. It took 32 months and hundreds of workers to build the gargantuan vessel at Saint-Nazaire in France.
Harmony of the Seas has a multicultural 2,100-member crew representing 77 nationalities. The ship is akin to a floating city, with 18 decks and seven activity zones. The design incorporates a boardwalk, a royal promenade, an entertainment area, sports arenas and fitness centres.
The vessel houses 23 swimming pools, 20 dining venues, surf simulators, 3D movie theaters and a karaoke bar, among other luxury facilities.
Most of the 2,747 staterooms have balconies, and some even have bunk beds for families with children. Rooms without windows or a port hole feature “virtual balconies,” where real-time footage of the view outside is streamed through televisions.
Prices for state rooms start from $1,313 per person for a week-long cruise and go up to $4,026 for a luxury suite.
Harmony of the Seas features a state-of-the-art Royal Theatre that can seat up to 1,380 guests. It has a lineup of award-winning Broadway-style productions and aerial acts.
The ship has 16 restaurants, can accommodate 6,780 guests, has a jaw-dropping height of 230 feet and, at 215.5 feet, it is the widest cruise ship ever built.
The $1.17 billion ship will spend its summers cruising along the Mediterranean Sea and will leave for the warmer shores of the Caribbean during winters.
The ship embarked on its maiden journey from Southampton, England to Rotterdam, The Netherlands on May 22.
