The Independent National Electoral Commission has urged eligible residents of Ondo State to take part in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise before it closes on Sunday, July 26.
Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mutiu Agboke, made the appeal on Wednesday while inspecting registration centres across the state during the third phase of the extended CVR exercise.
Agboke visited several registration locations, including the INEC Registration Centre on Oda Road in Akure and St. Anthony RCM Primary School in Araromi, Akure.
His monitoring tour also covered St. Stephen Anglican Primary School in Idanre Local Government Area and other registration centres.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner stressed that eligible Nigerians who fail to register despite being aware of the exercise risk excluding themselves from participating in future elections.
He said voters should not blame the electoral commission for disenfranchisement if they deliberately refuse to take advantage of the registration opportunity.
According to Agboke, having a person’s details included in the official voters’ register is one of the major requirements for participating in elections.
The REC expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise in Ondo State.
He encouraged eligible residents who had yet to register to complete the process before the deadline and also urged registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards.
Agboke assured residents who had already registered, as well as those expected to complete registration before Sunday, that their PVCs would be available ahead of the 2027 general election.
During the exercise, the OluAyede of Odo-Ala in Akure North Local Government Area, Oba Bakare Jimoh, commended INEC for the conduct of the voter registration process.
The traditional ruler said he visited the INEC state headquarters to transfer his voter registration from Akure South Local Government Area to Akure North.
Another participant, Oluwatosin Rachael Akinde, a resident of Idanre, also praised the commission for what she described as a smooth and stress-free registration process.
Akinde said she applied to transfer her voter card because she now lives far from her previous voting location and wants to participate fully in the forthcoming general election.
INEC has continued to encourage eligible Nigerians to register, update their voter information where necessary and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of future elections.
