The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on Monday called on Nigerians to unite in solving the common challenges facing the nation.
A statement in Kaduna by the ACF National Publicity Secretary, Mr Anthony Sani in commemoration of Nigeria’s 53rd Independence Anniversary, noted that the task of overcoming current national challenges requires collective effort.
The regional body also called for reconciliation among Nigerians in order to build a vibrant and strong nation.
“Nigerians should not allow transient challenges to set back the National Agenda.
“On the contrary, difficult times should bring about national grandeur, purposeful leadership and the best in every one.
“No nation thrives on victory of its factions but through ultimate reconciliation, which is not an act of cowardice but of patriotic courage and even heroism.”
The ACF also called for an end to violence, urging insurgents and other aggrieved parties to appreciate that “such approaches do not solve problems”.
“ACF urges them to lay down their arms and embrace civilised ways of doing things.”
The statement added: “That is why the ACF appeals to all Nigerians to use this occasion and resolve to live up to the concept of a nation by coming together and unleashing their energy against our common challenges for public good.”
