Ikpeazu vs Otti: Wabara leads protesters in Aba, says Appeal Court ruling unacceptable

Activities in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State, was crippled on Saturday, following a peaceful protest by the Ukwa/Ngwa people of the South-East state, over the Court of Appeal ruling that cancelled the governorship result from three local government areas of Ukwa/Ngwa extraction.
The affected councils are: Obingwa, which is the local government of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Osisioma and Isialangwa North.
The court had ruled that the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate, Alex Otti, should be sworn-in as the governor but Ikpeazu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, insisted that he won the election, vowing to take the matter to the Supreme Court.
He also told Abians to be law abiding.
Protesting the court ruling that disenfranchised Ikpeazu and people of the three local government areas, former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wagbara, who led a section of the protesters on the Ariaria section of the Enugu-Aba-Port-Harcourt highway, said that the ruling “is unacceptable to us”.
He said that their votes must count, while appealing to the people to remain peaceful and law-abiding, even as they continue with the protest.
His words: “We are on the street to register our displeasure over the Court of Appeal ruling. All we are saying is that our votes should and must be allowed to count. We must be part of the decision of who governs us. And we did when we voted overwhelmingly for our son, Dr Ikpeazu, as our governor. This attempt to rob us our hard-earned mandate through the Court of Appeal is unacceptable to us. While the ruling will be challenged, we shall remain on the streets.”
While Wabara, alongside the chairman of Osisioma, Chief Sam Nwogu, among other prominent leaders, are leading protesters along the Ariaria section of the highway, Dr Godson Amuta, chairman of Isialangwa South, the Commissioner for Finance and other leaders in the area, are leading another group of protesters at Umuikea junction on the same highway.
The chairman of Isialangwa North is also leading another set of protesters at Ntigha junction on the same highway.
A more formidable protesters, led by the Commissioner for Works, Eziuche Ubani, Chairman of Obingwa council and other leaders of Obingwa, locked down Aba.
