Coach Sam Okpodu on Friday completed his signing as head coach of newly promoted side, Ikorodu United FC for the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
The former Warri Wolves coach will assume duty officially in the side’s NPFL match day 8 clash at Nasarawa United at adopted home in Makurdi.
The interim coach, Edema Benson now designated assistant coach will take charge of the side’s matchday 7 clash against Giwa FC on Sunday at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos.
An official of the side, Tunde Ayoola said the side went for Okpodu because of his exposure and wealth of experience in the round leather game.

“I must tell you right away that it’s a done deal coach Sam Okpodu has signed with us as head coach today (Friday) in Lagos exactly 16.55 hours.

“Officially he is the head coach of Ikorodu United for the ongoing top flight domestic league season.

“Okpodu will assume full charge of the side in NPFL matchday 8 clash at Nasarawa United in Makurdi.

“Coach Edema Benson will oversee Ikorodu United matchday 7 tie against Giwa FC on Sunday in Lagos.

“Coach Benson was an interim coach and has been reassigned as assistant to the head coach, Okpodu. Of course, the management mandated Okpodu to stabilise the team, pick one of the continental ticket or worst case scenario finish the season among the top four teams.

“The mandates are not tough ones given the pedigree of coach Okpodu and that could have been the reason he appended his signatures without hesitation,” said Ayoola said.

Ikorodu United have five points in their kitty from possible 18 in the six-week old top flight though with a game to spare at champions, Enyimba.
