Iyamho town in Etsako Local Government, Edo State was, on Friday, brought to a standstill as Governor Adams Oshiomhole got married to Lara Forte from Cape Verde.
The marriage was consummated five years after Oshiomhole’s wife, Clara, died.
Before the marriage, there was a controversy on the citizenship of Lara Forte.
Oshiomhole revealed this when he said during the wedding: “I have seen a lot of publications, some saying that she is a Filipino, Dutch and several others, but she is from Cape Verde. And that is part of West Africa. I hope this will put to rest the debate of where she is from”.
At the wedding were President-Elect, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari; his wife Aisha; Vice President-Elect, Professor Yemi Osibanjo; former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon; Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Alike Dangote; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal; National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta); Liyel Imoke (Cross River) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun).
Others included former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia; former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi; billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola; Governor-elect of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai; former External Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi; former Kwara State governor, Senator Bukola Saraki; former Ekiti State governor, Otunba Niyi Adebayo; Chief Raymond Dokpesi and others.
Gowon was the chairman of the event.
To Oshiomhole, Forte “is very understanding, caring and a loving lady. This is something that one is happy about and I thank God for that. One is also happy that I have friends across all political divides who are here today.
“She is very humble, she appreciates the nature of my job that it is one that one returns home late. She understands my weaknesses, she is more or less the mother of the house, the one that has accepted to be the mother of my children.
“I am happy that all my children are at home with her and accept her as their mother. Although she is not old enough to be their mother, she has accepted to fill that gap”.
Aisha Buhari told the new wife to learn how to cook Nigerian foods to get the heart of her husband.
