Mr Lucas Koyejo, the Director, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Lagos Zone, has said the commission received over 100 petitions of right violations in the state in 11 months.

Koyejo disclosed this in Lagos on Thursday, on the sidelines of  a UN 16-days of activism event to create awareness for violation of the rights of women and girls in the state.

The theme for the 2023 campaign is: ” End GBV and harmful practices against women and girls in Nigeria”.

The director said the petitions for males and females kept increasing by the day, especially females and advised victims to always speak up and stand for their rights.

“Whether a man or woman, everybody needs to have their rights protected. Though most of the time, it is the rights of women that are violated.

“So, people need to report to the commission if they have their rights violated. At the same time, If it is a crime, they also need to report to the police,” he said.

Koyejo advised citizens to speak up and report violations cases by calling the NHRC on toll-free short code – 6472.

The director, staff of the commission and some NGOs had a road walk in some streets in Ikeja area to create awareness  against the violation of the rights of women and girls
