Handball crisis: NSC, Veterans meet in court June 13

The lawyers of the National Sports Commission (NSC) will meet the representatives of the Mega Handball Veterans at the Federal High Court on June 13.

This would be for the litigation filed against the National Sports Commission over the election into the board of Handball Federation of Nigeria.

The matter which was brought before the Federal High Court by the Mega Handball Veterans over what they described as gross violation of Election Guidelines by the National Sports Commission has already resulted to the board not being sworn-in by the Sports Minister, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

Among the prayers of the plaintiff was that the election that produced Alhaji Yusuf Dauda as the President of Handball Federation should be declared null and void.

It further prayed that not only that the board should not be sworn in but restrain the Sports Minister, National Sports Commission and other relevant government agencies from recognizing the said board.

Mega Handball Veterans finally prayed that neither one Alhaji Yusuf Dauda nor other acclaimed board members should be restrained from parading themselves as the board members of Handball Federation of Nigeria.

While addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, the National Coordinator of Mega Handball Veterans, Mr. Nicholas Nwani, expressed confidence in the nation’s judiciary saying that in line with the disciplinary nature of the game of handball, what the Veterans are doing is to make sure that such high level of order is maintained.

The former national team player questioned the rationale behind a government agency going against stipulated guidelines it was meant to protect hoping that mere negotiation will solve the heinous problem.

“We are in court now and with the level of confidence I have in Nigeria Judiciary, I sincerely believe that justice will be done in this matter”, he concluded.

It would be recalled that Sports Minister and Chairman of National Sports Commission Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi waved the white flag for negotiation on the alleged irregularities that marred the elections into the board of Handball Federation of Nigeria but the Handball Veteran rejected the call, describing it double standard.

They agreed to pursue their case in court saying that they are willing to accept in good fate any decision the court will reach on the matter.
