Supporters of a Lagos State House of Assembly aspirant, Omoba Adedeon, have expressed confidence in his ability to provide quality representation if elected, citing his empowerment programmes and contributions to community development.

The supporters spoke during the party’s primary election in Kosofe constituency.

One of the supporters, Mr Olanrewaju Adepeso, said Adedeon had continued to positively impact lives across the constituency even before contesting for public office.

Adepeso said the aspirant had demonstrated capacity through various poverty alleviation initiatives targeted at youths and widows.

According to him, Adedeon has been active across the seven wards in the LCDA, especially in Ward A, through empowerment programmes and support for vulnerable residents.

“He has been helping the youths and widows in our community and that is why we are supporting him.

“We believe that if he gets to the Assembly, he will do more for the constituency at large,” he said.

Another supporter, Mr Adeyemi Bankole, described Adedeon as a grassroots politician who had consistently supported residents with his personal resources.

Bankole said the aspirant had earned the trust of the people through his humanitarian activities and commitment to community development.

“There are many empowerment programmes he has done from his own pocket even before getting into government.

“So, we believe that if he gets elected into the House of Assembly, he will do much more for the people,” he said.

He added that Ward A of Ekosisheri had never produced a representative in the State House of Assembly, noting that Adedeon’s emergence would give the ward a sense of inclusion and representation.

According to him, residents believe the ward deserves the opportunity to produce a lawmaker after years without representation at the state level.

Bankole appealed to party members and residents to support the aspirant at the polls, expressing optimism that he would emerge victorious.

Some other supporters at the gathering also described Adedeon as “a man of the people,” saying he had remained accessible and responsive to the needs of residents.

They urged voters to support his ambition, noting that his leadership qualities and concern for the welfare of the people distinguished him from other aspirants.

However, chaos erupted at the election venue when one of the aspirants, Hon. Saeed Wasiu Obafemi, arrived to appreciate his supporters.

The development reportedly angered supporters of rival aspirants, who allegedly began throwing stones at the venue.

The situation caused panic as security operatives fired gunshots into the air to disperse the crowd, forcing many party members and supporters to flee for safety.

Some aggrieved supporters of rival aspirants demanded the disqualification of Obafemi and lodged complaints with officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) present at the venue.
