Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has charged Corps members deployed to the state to be committed to building a united, peaceful, prosperous and egalitarian society.
Makinde made the call during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch “B” Stream II orientation course for Corps members in Iseyin, Oyo State on Tuesday.
The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mrs Olubukola Oladipo, urged Corps members to play active role in efforts to restore prosperity.
“I want to implore you all to be productive. Put in your best, no matter how little or big it might be, for the transformation of your host communities.
“I also implore you to cultivate and maintain a healthy relationship with your host communities. Oyo State is a pacesetter state in all ramifications, and our people are very hospitable and accommodating.
“Dear compatriots, I admonish you to make a positive use of your youthful age and strength. Be vibrant and progressive-minded.
”Seek advice when needed, build good relationships and contacts among yourselves.
“You are the hope and future of this nation. So, pursue your aspirations with high level of integrity, humility, honesty and creativity,” he said.
Gov. Makinde assured that the state government would be committed to the provisions of good security and adequate welfare for Corps members, irrespective of the location of their primary assignment.
The Oyo State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Abel Odoba, urged employers of Corps members to be more responsive to their responsibilities towards Corps welfare.
”Accept them with love, correct their mistakes and commend them when necessary.”
He said this would engender cordial employer-and-employee relationship and in the process encourage Corps members to give their best in national service.
“At this juncture, I urge you my dear Corps members to be hard working and be above board, be law abiding and accept challenges that will give you an edge in life.
“You should add value to the certificate you have acquired by embarking on self-development programs alongside your primary assignment.
“The Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Program that you have started in camp should not be dumped. Make sure you continue with post-camp training.
“You may not know what can actually provide an acceptable content for you in the near future,” Odoba said.
The 2,237 Corps members were deployed to the state, alongside their counterparts dislodged from Lagos.
They have been posted to different places of primary assignment across the 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
