Senator Gbemisola Saraki has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection, on Friday, dealt a serious blow to the ranks of the PDP in Kwara State.
Freedom Online learned that the daughter of the late strongman of Kwara politics, Dr. Olusola Saraki, left the PDP due to the way she was treated during the governorship primaries.
With the defection, the powerful Saraki structure in the North-Central state is now backing the presidential aspiration of the APC candidate, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari.
Her brother and former governor of the state, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is the leader of the APC in the state.
Gbemi Saraki, who represented Kwara Central Senatorial District in the Upper Chamber from 2007 to 2011, directed her supporters, on Thursday, to storm the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, and express their solidarity for Buhari.
She arrived Ilorin on Friday and immediately addressed her supporters at the Ilofa, GRA home of the Sarakis, telling them to vote for Buhari and all the National Assembly APC candidates.
Her brother, Bukola, is seeking re-election to the Upper Chamber in Kwara Central district.
She said: “I thank you all for always being there for me. All of you know that tomorrow March 28 is the last Saturday of the month and also the day for the presidential elections. I urge you to sweep your environment very well with your brooms.”
