The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged the Sokoto State Government to establish a functional database of commercial tricycle and motorcycle riders for improved security and sanity in the businesses.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Abdullahi Maikano, made the call at an enlightenment exercise organized for the riders’ union members on Monday in Sokoto.
Maikano, who was represented by the Deputy Commander, Operations, Mr Aliyu Ma’aji, said the activity was organised to sensitise the riders on safety guidelines, offences and sanctions.
He emphasized that a functional database would assist in tackling security challenges, revenue generation, prompt response to victims of road traffic accidents and other hospital services.
The commander dwelt on route violations, speeding, dangerous driving, proper motorcycle and tricycle registration guidelines.
Maikano further appealed to the state government to include accident victims, especially commercial riders in Zakkat Commission’s support services.
Responding, the Chairman of the union, Alhaji Shamsu Aliyu, thanked FRSC for organising the exercise and promised to abide by the traffic rules and regulations.
The event featured a practical demonstration of safety tips, questions and answers as well as solutions to the lingering traffic challenges.
