The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has confirmed that four people lost their lives while eight others were injured in a road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
The crash occurred in the early hours of Sunday near Christopher University, according to a statement by the FRSC Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Odunsi.
Odunsi said the accident involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number AGL 789 YL, which reportedly lost control around 1:30 a.m.
A total of 13 passengers were on board at the time of the incident, including 11 men and two women.
Out of the victims, four adult males were confirmed dead, while eight others — seven men and one woman — sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Preliminary investigations by the FRSC revealed that the crash was caused by a burst tyre combined with excessive speed, which led the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Rescue teams from the FRSC Mowe Unit Command arrived promptly at the scene and carried out emergency response operations.
The injured victims were evacuated to Famobis Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were taken to the Idera Morgue.
Authorities also confirmed that the crashed vehicle and recovered belongings have been handed over to the Motor Traffic Division (MTD)of the Redeemed Police Station for further investigation.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
He urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and ensure their vehicles, especially tyres, are in good condition before embarking on journeys.
