A forum of Public Affairs Analysts in Oyo, Ogbomoso and Oke-Ogun areas in Oyo State has cautioned members of the National Assembly to refrain from undignified, sentimental and myopic outbursts over former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s statement, but rather re-assess critically
their activities and exhibit traits of responsive and
responsible law makers.
The forum at a media briefing in Oyo town, also called on
the electorate to stand up stiff and ask the lawmakers questions which they would not be able to answer.
In his address, Chairman of the forum, Pa Adebiyi Odekanyin, warned that for electorate to remain complacent, and throw their problems on the neck of God without working with Him is a futile exercise, as God cannot and will not manifest Himself to cowards.
Odekanyin said ostentatious lifestyles of members of the National Assembly and what they have been doing so far should not come as a
surprise, but be credited.
According to him, “when you read a book titled, IN PRAISE OF FOLLIES, written by Desiderus Eramus, you will know that our pre-eminent lawmakers are similarly like Nero, who was dining when his Rome was on fire”.
He added, “on the other hand, the electorate too should be called into question like a rabbit, who, when it was devoured by the hunter in the bush kept its mute, but when it gets to the market to be sold for consumption, it raises its hands upward in praise of its follies”.
Lamenting on the procurements of exotic cars for each of the Senators at a cost of over N14 million, and every member of House of Representatives at a cost of over N10 million, Odekanyin regretted that due to paltry gratification, the electorates sink below the average, like a clergy man who thinks himself as the holiest among the mortals.
“Our federal lawmakers are not patriots, but rather political
investors par excellence. We are appealing to the conscience of these lawmakers to know that politics is a call to service”.
