As the world marks World Water Day, Agriculture Summit Africa is bringing together leaders across agriculture, finance and policy to confront one of the biggest threats to Nigeria’s food system, water.
The convening, a high-level thought leadership webinar, themed ‘Climate-Smart Agriculture Driving Resilience and Sustainable Agribusiness Growth’ is supported by Sterling Bank, Sunbeth Global Concepts, Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems and Lagos State Employment Trust Fund.
Nigeria’s agriculture sector employs millions and remains central to food security, yet it is increasingly under pressure from erratic rainfall, flooding, drought and soil degradation. For many farmers and agribusinesses, these are no longer distant risks, they are daily realities.
At the heart of the challenge is water. With most farming still dependent on rainfall, the sector is highly exposed to climate shocks, making the case for smarter water use and more resilient systems urgent.
Speaking ahead of the session, Dr Olushola Obikanye, Sterling Bank’s Group Head Agriculture and Solid Mineral Finance, said: “Water is at the heart of agriculture and food security. If we are serious about feeding the future, then climate-smart agriculture and better water management must move from conversation to action. This is about building a system that can withstand shocks and still deliver growth.”
The webinar will focus on real solutions, from climate-smart farming practices to financing models that can help farmers and agribusinesses adapt and grow despite climate pressure. It will also spotlight investment opportunities and strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors.
Participants will include agribusinesses, financial institutions, government agencies, development partners, investors and young agripreneurs who are shaping the future of the sector.
Insights from the session will feed into a Climate Resilience Intelligence Report to support ongoing policy and investment decisions.
