Fintiri Defects from PDP to APC, Cites Development Goals

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fintiri made the announcement on Friday during a press conference in Yola, stating that the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders across the state.

According to the governor, the move is aimed at strengthening development efforts in Adamawa and repositioning the state within national politics.

He said aligning with the APC would enable the state to effectively support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, housing, social welfare and inclusive economic growth.

“After wide consultations with a broad spectrum of our people, we have resolved to politically align Adamawa State with the APC,” Fintiri said, adding that the decision was taken in the best interest of the state rather than for personal political ambition.

The governor noted that his administration remains committed to the mandate given to it in the 2019 and 2023 elections and pledged to uphold its development agenda.

He disclosed that he would be moving to the APC alongside party structures across the state’s 226 wards and 21 local government areas, including elected and appointed officials.

Fintiri said the defection would help return Adamawa to what he described as mainstream national politics and create greater opportunities for federal collaboration and investment.

Highlighting achievements under his administration, the governor listed progress in security, road construction, healthcare, education, housing, markets, electricity and water supply, as well as youth and women empowerment initiatives.

He assured residents that ongoing development projects and social programmes would continue without interruption and urged supporters to register with the APC and remain actively engaged in the political process.
