MultiChoice, Nigeria’s leading provider of premium pay-TV services, in conjunction with the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, has announced plans to enhance the DStv Premier Basketball League, as the current season winds down with the Final Four play-offs, which dunks off on Wednesday, September 4. The play-offs will see Union Bank, Dodan Warriors, Kano Pillars and Mark Mentors square up against one another at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Martin Mabutho, General Manager, Marketing and Sales, MultiChoice Nigeria, said MultiChoice, the title sponsor of the DStv Premier League, has concluded plans to deliver a signature DStv All Stars Basketball fiesta, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the company on Saturday 14 September. He promised that the company will support the NBBF to host a memorable final four playoff at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos from the 4th to 6th of September for the top teams from the Savannah and Atlantic conferences. He disclosed this at a media briefing held on Tuesday, September 03, 2013 at the SWAN Secretariat, National Stadium, Lagos, to announce season-ending activities for the DStv Premier Basketball League.

Mr Mabutho, who expressed MultiChoice and NBBF’s desire to improve attendance at the games, further said that the sponsors are in talks with the Federation to evolve initiatives that will help enhance the standard of the league and its broadcast.

Mr Tijjani Umar, President, NBBF, thanked MultiChoice for its continued support of the Federation and the league. He expressed confidence that the league will get better by and by, as the Federation will continue to enhance the profile of the league in its quest to ensure that Nigerian basketball takes its pride of place in Africa and at the global stage.

Mr Umar apologized to Nigerians over the ouster of the country’s basketball team, D’Tigers from the Afrobasket Nations Cup, which ended recently, and promised that effort to forestall failure will be put in place to ensure that Nigeria performs well in subsequent editions of the continental showpiece and at other international engagements. He promised to take learning outcomes from the Afro Basketball experience to tinker the female team for its upcoming national assignment.
