Fiji smashes Micronesia 38-0

Fiji scored five times in the opening five minutes and kept piling on the goals as they defeated Micronesia 38-0 in the most lopsided win in history.
The previous record for biggest international win was held by Australia, when the Socceroos defeated American Samoa 31-0 in 2001.
But Micronesia could be in luck as the nation is not recognised by FIFA, meaning they may stay out of the record books.
This match was part of the Pacific Games and also doubled as an Olympic qualifier.
Micronesia lost its first match 30-0 to Tahiti. That means the nation of about 600 islands currently sits with a goal differential of -68 after two matches.
Despite the result, Micronesia’s manager Stan Foster said his team did some things well. “We did quite well in the second half. The marking was slack in the first half so I told them to make sure they marked man to man, and that worked out a lot better. Most of these guys are from small villages where they don’t play soccer, so they’ve come a long way.
“They’re not used to a crowd in a big tournament like this against real quality players. The Tahiti match was a real shock to them, but they bounced back. I gave them a bit of a pep talk.”
The tactical changes limited Fiji to just 17 second half goals, compared to the 21 they scored in the opening half.
For Fiji, Antonio Tuivana hit double digits with 10 goals, while Christopher Wasasala bagged seven.
