The Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Omatseye Nesiama, has congratulated the country’s sprint queen, Blessing Okagbare, for her brilliant race and improved time at the Paris Diamond League held on July 4 in Paris, France.
Okagbare finished second in a time of 10.80 seconds, six seconds after Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fryser-Pryce, who finished first with 10.74 secs, while English Gardner of the United States (U.S.) returned in 10.97 seconds.
Nesiama said in Lagos that it was good that Okagbare had continued to improve on her performance.
Omatseye Nesiama, congratulated her, saying he was delighted that she finished ahead of Murielle Ahoure of Cote d’Ivoire, who came fifth.
“It is a good sign that she is focused on her game. That is what is expected at this time. The field was tough and her consistently running sub 11seconds would no doubt improve her confidence.
“I am particularly happy that she beat Ahoure convincingly, which should now put the pressure more on the Ivorian at the 11th All African Games,’’ he said.
Nesiama , however, advised Okagbare and her manager to carefully select her competitions well before the IAAF World Championships in August.
“My advice now is for her and her manager to carefully select and manage the events and competitions she would take part in between now and the World Championships,” he said.
