It took just eight seconds for Robin Fellhauer to etch his name into Bundesliga history, and Bayern Munich will not want to remember this particular record for very long.
The FC Augsburg midfielder scored the fastest goal in Bundesliga history on Saturday, finding the back of the net just 8.4 seconds into the Bavarian derby against Bayern Munich. The previous record of nine seconds was jointly held by Kevin Volland, who scored for Hoffenheim against Bayern in 2015, and Karim Bellarabi, who scored for Bayer Leverkusen against Borussia Dortmund in 2014.
After Luis Díaz played the ball back to Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from kickoff, the veteran attempted to chip the onrushing Fellhauer. Instead, Neuer hit the Augsburg player with the ball, allowing Fellhauer to race toward an empty net and calmly finish.
Bayern equalised shortly after the break through Ismael Saibari, but Augsburg regained the lead through Rodrigo Ribeiro just after the hour.
Nathaniel Brown ensured Bayern secured a point when he finished clinically from close range after impressive play by Kane.
Bayern’s only defeat en route to the Bundesliga title last season was a 2-1 home loss to Augsburg, and they proved stubborn opponents once again.
