The board of the Nigeria Squash Federation has given JGM Residential Maintenance Services Ltd. approval to hold U16 and U19 National Squash Tournament from April 12 to April 15 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Managing Director of the UK-based company, Niyi Oyewumi, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

Oyewumi, the first national U16 squash champion, former U19 champion and current Technical Director of the Oyo State Squash Association, said the tournament was his way of giving back to the society.

“I’m glad to inform you that the board of the Nigeria Squash Federation led by its president, Boye Oyerinde, has approved a date for the first edition of the JGM Residential Maintenance U16 and U19 Junior National Squash Tournament.

“This is the first time this tournament is going national and it gladdens my heart that it will bring together young squash players from across the country to compete and showcase their skills.

“Before now, this had been a zonal tournament for the South West states but taking it a step further to the national level is a wonderful achievement,” he stated.

Oyewumi confirmed that the Recreation Club (1902), Ibadan, had also given permission for its facilities to be used for the tournament.

“The leadership of the Recreation Club (1902), Dr Soji Tayo and the Squash section chairman, Akin-Ajayi-Obe, have also graciously approved the use of their squash courts for the tournament.

“The club has been of immense help from when we held the tournament for only South West states and Oyo State.

“We’re grateful for their steadfastness and commitment to the development of squash,” he said.

The tournament, which is for junior players (Boys and Girls), will see players from all over the country converge on the ancient city of Ibadan for four days of competitive squash actions.
