The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike, is making strides in expanding infrastructure across Abuja’s satellite towns to help address rural-urban migration and promote decentralized development
Wike made the announcement during an inspection of the ongoing construction of the 13-kilometre Gomani to Yangoji Road in the Kwali Area Council, Abuja, on Thursday. He expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the project, noting that the road, once completed, will provide vital links for rural communities to major roads leading to the city center.
“The development of these roads is part of the FCT Administration’s efforts to ensure that growth is not concentrated solely in the city center,” Wike explained. He further emphasized that this initiative is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to open up satellite towns and discourage the trend of rural-urban migration.
Wike highlighted that the expansion of road networks, such as the Gomani to Yangoji road, is essential for improving accessibility in underserved areas. He pointed out that other road corridors, like the A2 (Abuja to Lokoja Expressway) to Pai, had already been completed and inaugurated in 2025, marking President Tinubu’s second year in office. The Painto Gomani road project is currently in progress, with the Gomani to Yangoji road expected to be completed and inaugurated by June 2026, celebrating Tinubu’s third year in office.
The minister commended Zeberced, the contractor responsible for the road project, for adhering to the project’s timeline and delivering quality work. He noted that streetlight pillars are being installed along the road, further enhancing the project’s value. “I commend the contractor for not only providing quality jobs but also ensuring that the project remains on schedule,” Wike added.
Wike expressed confidence that the rapid development of these satellite towns would be a source of pride for the presidency. “When the President visits, it will bring him joy to see that development is spreading across all the satellite towns, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to balanced regional growth,” he stated.
