Fayose charges Nigerian leaders on humility

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said the only way Nigeria can make progress is for leaders to humble themselves and come to the level of the led.
He made the comment in Ado-Ekiti while having an interface with the leadership of the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
In a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the governor said many Nigerian leaders fail in office because they get carried away with the grandeur of office and forget the people they lead.
“The only way we can make the nation progress is for the leaders to humble themselves and come to the level of those being led. When they do that, they will know what the people need and be able to meet those needs.
“A leader cannot be faraway from the people and be able to know their needs. There is no leader without the followers. That is why I have always been close to my people.
I am not going to be a governor that is celebrated abroad but not celebrated at home,” he said.
Stressing the importance of the job of a driver, Fayose noted that a driver of an 18-passenger vehicle has the lives and the destinies of the passengers in his hands.
While appealing to the drivers to maintain peaceful conduct, he noted that the profession was a noble one.
Fayose, who was in the company of the Commissioner of Police and the State Director, Department of State Security, reiterated the commitment of the state government not to allow any group of person take the law into their hands.
Fayose implored the NURTW members to work harmoniously with their colleagues in the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).
He urged the drivers and the people of the state to be on the watch-out for politicians who may want to foment trouble in the state.
“We are enjoying peace in the state now, this is because those causing trouble have been sent packing and their leaders are now in Abuja seeking appointments and we know that when they fail there, they will relocate back home,” he said.
The State Chairman of the NURTW, Mr Clement Adekola, in his speech, promised the support of the union to the state government.
He said his members would be law abiding and called for financial support to the union in the forms of provision of vehicles and soft loans.
