Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, on Monday, announced a ban on cattle-rearing and grazing in the state.
He also ordered that cattle should be restricted to their ranches, saying that any cattle found outside the ranches would be arrested.
The governor announced this during a visit to Oke Ako in Ikole Local Government Area where suspected herdsmen reportedly killed two residents on Friday.
He said that any person interested in cattle farming should build his own ranch.
He said that a bill to make movement of cattle outside ranches in the state criminal would be sent to the House of Assembly without delay.
Fayose alleged that the suspected herdsmen that attacked Oke-Ako and other communities across the country were in the mould of terrorists.
“The Fulani herdsmen that killed two Oke Ako residents and injured many others are agents of the devil that must be fished out and punished accordingly.
“I have come here to commiserate with the people of Oke-Ako over the murder of two of our people.
“I am also here to assure that this will be the last time our communities will be invaded by suspected herdsmen.
“No more free movement of cattle from one location to another in the state.
“Any cattle seen anywhere in Ekiti apart from the ranch created for them by their owners will be confiscated by the government and their owners will be prosecuted,’’ he said.
The governor added that it was the duty of government to protect people of the state “and we are going to do that without fear or favour”.
He announced a donation of N5 million and a bus to local hunters in Oke Ako to enable them to complement efforts of security agencies already deployed in the community.
He also gave N2.5 million to families of the two men slain by the invaders.
