The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), on Thursday, said preliminary investigation revealed that power outage on Wednesday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos was caused by a surge from the line supplying the airport.
This is contained in a statement by FAAN’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mr Yakubu Dati, in Lagos on Thursday.
On Wednesday, passengers of KLM, Delta and Aero were stranded at the airport for close to two hours due to the outage.
the situation was so bad that the passengers used their phone lights to look for their bags.
The atmosphere was charged when someone raised the issue of pilfering, alleging that some airport workers could tamper with their bags.
Dati said the line supplying power to the airport and surrounding communities was affected.
It said that the situation had since been rectified by its team of engineers and power restored at the airport.
“After restoring power to the affected parts of the terminal, our engineers mobilised immediately to trace affected equipment and assess the levels of damage to them.
“We wish to inform the general public that the power outage experienced yesterday, November 18, at some sections of the International Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos has been rectified.
“We also wish to state that flight schedules at the terminal were not affected by this outage, as efforts were made by our Operations Directorate to ensure that passenger facilitation was not unduly hampered”, it said.
The statement said that the FAAN regretted any inconvenience the outage caused its passengers, airliners and other airport users.
