A former President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Bonnie Iwuoha, is dead.
A family source said Iwuoha, also a former Abia State Commissioner for Information, died on Monday evening in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
He was a senior and highly respected member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
In fact, he was the Chairman, Electoral Committee of NGE election in June in the Northern city of Kano.
The family source said he was sick for some time and got better. “He even spoke to some of his colleagues last week but, the sickness relapsed and he was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he died”.
In his reaction, NGE President, Isa Mustapha, said: “I’m just struggling to believe that Bonnie Iwuoha is no more. He called last week to tell me that he was fully back on his feet. He commended us for the Town Hall meeting held in Lagos and asked the Exco to keep up the good work. I told him to get ready to play a major role in the Town Hall which will be held in Enugu. But I never knew that would be our last conversation.
“Oga Bonnie was a committed member of the Guild. We will miss him greatly.
May God grant his soul eternal rest and give his family the courage to bear this huge loss”.
